Chief Minister of the National Capital Territory of Delhi - Rekha Gupta

Rekha Gupta, born on July 19, 1974, in Julana, Haryana, is an Indian politician serving as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi since February 20, 2025. Her appointment marks the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades.


**Early Life and Education**

At the age of two, Rekha's family relocated to Delhi when her father, Jai Bhagwan Jindal, assumed the role of branch manager at the State Bank of India in Pitampura. Her mother, Urmila Jindal, was a homemaker. Rekha completed her Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. During her college years, she became actively involved in student politics, joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) in 1992. **Political Career**

Rekha Gupta's political journey began with her active participation in student politics. Her leadership skills led her to serve as the general secretary of the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) in 1995 and as its president in 1996-97. In 2007, she was elected as a councilor from North Pitampura and was re-elected in 2012. During her tenure, she focused on developing basic facilities in the area, such as libraries, parks, and swimming pools. She also launched initiatives like the "Sumedha Yojana," supporting economically weaker female students in pursuing higher education. As the head of the Women Welfare and Child Development Committee, she led empowerment campaigns for women. Rekha has also served as the General Secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of its national executive committee. In these roles, she initiated numerous campaigns for the welfare of marginalized communities and women.   

In the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, Rekha contested from the Shalimar Bagh constituency as a BJP candidate. She secured a decisive victory, defeating Aam Aadmi Party's Bandana Kumari by a margin of over 25,000 votes. Her win was significant in breaking the AAP's previous dominance in the region. Following the elections, the BJP named her as the Chief Minister of Delhi. She was sworn in on February 20, 2025, becoming the fourth woman to hold this position in Delhi. The ceremony, held at Ramlila Maidan, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent BJP leaders.   

**Personal Life**

Rekha Gupta married Manish Gupta, an industrialist specializing in brass parts, in 1998. The couple has two children: a son currently attending college and a daughter involved in the family business.

As Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta faces significant challenges, including tackling air and river pollution and improving infrastructure in Delhi.
